Laser cutting (English session)

In deze workshop leer je de basics die nodig zijn om met kleine en medium lasersnijder te werken.

After this workshop, you will have the knowledge to get started independently and begin laser engraving and cutting. The workshop is much like a hands-on practical session, as you will explore the techniques and possibilities through small assignments. You will learn how the laser process works and the difference between cutting and engraving—and, above all, how to independently take a project from idea to finished laser-cut product.

Program

The laser cutters are digitally controlled. First, you will learn the difference between a vector file and a pixel-based image. Next, you will learn how to prepare a file so the machine can read your design; this can be done using various digital editing programs such as Inkscape, Adobe Illustrator, and RD-Works. In the second half, you will learn about relevant terminology and technology—specifically, the machine’s programming language that enables it to execute your commands. The capabilities and limitations of the technology will also be covered. The final section focuses on enabling you to work independently with the Lasergraaf IRIS and the MetaQuip CO2 laser machine.
